Neem in India
Loboschizia koenigiana (Fabricius)

This widely distributed tortricid is one of the important defoliators of neem. In nurseries it causes
considerable damage to seedlings and young plants by boring into the terminals. The female moth
lays eggs on the tender shoots. On hatching, the young larvae bore into tender shoots and feed. The
later instars mine and feed in rolled leaves or in between the superimposed leaves, spun with silk.
Pupation takes place in cocoon. The apical growing shoots develop callus structures due to excessive
gum exudatjon or probably due to secondary infection by the fungus (Candida sp.) as a result of which
plants exhibit a forked appearance.
