Neem in India
Endoclita undulifer Walker

It is a polyphagous pest attacking all stems and branches of a number of dicotyledonous and
coniferous tree species. In a rather unusual behaviour, the eggs are broadcast by the females while
flying and only a few pf them land on the host plants. The neonate larveae bore into the stem by
making a long, vertical narrow tunnel. The tunnel may run downwards-even up to the roots. The plant
develops a cankerous wound covered by a mat of fragments of bark and the sapwood. The attacked
stems may even break off at the point of the wound. Only a single generation is completed in a year.
